I have not had the lens for long now, but I am very please with the lens to date. The VR function works well and the lens is easy to zoom when you want to zoom in to focus then zoom out to take a more appropriately cropped image.

First of all, I also own the magnificent AF-S 24-70mm f/2.8G ED, so thats my comparison reference for the 18-200mm. The 24-70 is truly a beast, weighing in at a full two pounds, so I dont understand why so many people think the 18-200 is heavy when it weighs nearly half as much.
I bought this lens to replace the kit 18-55mm lens. My hopes for this lens were that it would be relatively compact and light and that it would outperform the kit lens as far as contrast and of course much better zoom. It meets most of my expectations.
Durable; Great Zoom; Reliable
Heavy; Not Silent
By far I have taken the most pictures (Thousands) with this lens. It is my go to when on vacation. I like this lens so much I kept it when I bought my D800. As you may be aware the D800 is excellent at showing you any inconsistencies or mistakes in your equipment or skills.
I went with the higher end lens for convenience and quality. It works just fine. I am a newb to DSLR and such so take my input with a grain of salt. I have no complaint and works well. Everyone else talks highly about it as well. Get a good Sigma UV lens to protect it too!
It's Like a Married Couple..............I am talking about Nikon D7000 and Nikon 18-200mm Lens . Now we all know that D7000 is the best SemiPro DSLR ever made and it sold like Hot cake but seriously this lens just adds a new dimension to it.
Pros: I now have two go-to lenses. My Nikkor 12 - 24mm and my new 18 - 200mm which I take on all hikes and outings. This combo provides maximum versatility and minimizes the amount of weight I'm carrying.
Fantastic lens, excellent optics and the coverage is amazing, without excessive weight.
Everything
Glittery design
While I hope to create a full Nikon 18-200mm f/3.5-5.6G AF-S DX VR II Lens, my first priority is to include results from this lens in the lens comparison tools available on the site.
This 11.1x super-zoom lens for Nikon DX format SLRs costs around £590, sports silent internal focusing and Vibration Reduction II, which promises to allow hand-held shots to be taken at shutters speeds up to four stops slower than would be possible otherwise.
