Great bang for buck. Some sample variability.

This lens does NOT produce images that are as sharp as (for example) the "industry standard" 70-200 f/2.8 Nikon lens, but it does produce a very good, very usable, sharp image. It takes more practice to get good images from this long of a lens than from a normal telephoto because the very narrow...

Best in class for birds and wildlife.

This lens is head to head with the Sigma Sport 15-600mm. However, it handles much better than the Sigma, which is nose heavy at 600mm. I have been using the G2 Tamron since its introduction and it is my standard birding lens on my Nikon D500, hardly ever use anything else.

Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 Lens Review

I tend to travel on the wide side when it comes to lens selection, so it was exciting to get a hold of Tamron's new super telephoto zoom-the SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 (Model A022). And what better way to give this big beauty a try than to take it on safari?

Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2

The second-generation Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 offers better image quality, more features, faster auto-focus and more effective image stabilisation than the 2013 version, but the price has increased significantly, so it's not quite the out-and-out bargain that it once was.

Tamron's update to its ultra-telephoto lens promises an enhanced capability with faster focusing and improved optical performance – so how do these new features fare? As any sports or wildlife photographer will tell you, an ultra-telephoto lens is an invaluable part of their kit bag.

The SP 150-600mm G2 (Generation 2) ultra-telephoto lens with upgraded optical performance enables handheld shooting with remarkable definition. This new lens builds upon the success of the current SP 150-600mm (Model A011) which Tamron first introduced in December, 2013, including better overall...
