When Tamron introduced the first generation of the 150-600mm f/5-6.3 super telephoto lens, they were innovators in the third-party market. Never before had the barrier to entry for photography requiring a super telephoto lens been so low.

The Tamron SP 150-600mm f/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 is a very good lens. For the money, it's a great lens. It's very sharp throughout its range, has effective image stabilization, quick autofocus, and is relatively light and handholdable for a lens of its focal length.

The focal length range of this lens makes it most suitable for sports and wildlife photographers and birders, in particular, will find its fast autofocusing and effective stabilisation advantageous if they are looking for a long lens that can be used hand-held.

The second-generation Tamron SP 150-600mm F/5-6.3 Di VC USD G2 offers better image quality, more features, faster auto-focus and more effective image stabilisation than the 2013 version, but the price has increased significantly, so it's not quite the out-and-out bargain that it once was.

This lens does NOT produce images that are as sharp as (for example) the "industry standard" 70-200 f/2.8 Nikon lens, but it does produce a very good, very usable, sharp image. It takes more practice to get good images from this long of a lens than from a normal telephoto because the very narrow...

This lens is head to head with the Sigma Sport 15-600mm. However, it handles much better than the Sigma, which is nose heavy at 600mm. I have been using the G2 Tamron since its introduction and it is my standard birding lens on my Nikon D500, hardly ever use anything else.

Best lens in such price....Having fun with it...
